In a battle of two Super Bowl contenders and division rivals, the San Francisco 49ers downed the defending champion Seattle Seahawks 29-26 on Sunday.

A tight battle between the NFC West foes came down to the final moments, and the game was ultimately decided by a field goal from the Niners. San Francisco stayed undefeated with the win, while Seattle dropped to 3-2.

The Niners went three-and-out on their opening drive, but came up with an interception on Seattle's opening drive. San Francisco capitalized when Brock Purdy found Mike Evans in the end zone, but the Seahawks later answered with a short rushing score from Emanuel Wilson.

Seattle took a momentary lead in the second quarter, but Christian McCaffrey scored on the following drive to put the Niners back on top, 14-10.

The Seahawks cut into the lead with another field goal from Jason Myers to make it a 14-13 game halfway through the second quarter and they looked like they were going to go into halftime trailing by just a point.

But San Francisco's defense stepped up in the final seconds of the quarter, forcing a fumble and recovering it in the end zone.

Seattle then had more offensive woes to start the second half when Sam Darnold threw his second interception, but he quickly corrected course and helped get his team back in the game.

Jaxson Smith-Njigba scored a 16-yard touchdown pass from Darnold, and Myers hit a pair of field goals to give Seattle a 26-21 lead heading into the final quarter.

The Niners struck back to start the fourth quarter, scoring on a touchdown pass from Purdy to the newest Niner, Brandin Cooks. The 49ers converted the two-point conversion to go up by three.

The Seahawks once again tied things up with a field goal, but San Francisco regained the lead with a field goal of its own on the following drive, leaving Seattle with just under two minutes to answer.

The field goal proved to be the decider.

Seattle had the chance for a big play, but a rare drop from Smith-Njigba brought up fourth down. Cooper Kupp nearly converted on fourth down, but was just short.

The first meeting between the 49ers and Seahawks this year delivered, and it won't be surprising to see another exciting battle in November.
