The Washington Commanders gave the rest of the NFL a lesson in clock mismanagement in overtime against the New York Giants on Sunday.

Following a costly Cam Skattebo fumble, the game was tied with just seconds remaining when quarterback Jayden Daniels took a sack. With no timeouts remaining, the Commanders had to scramble to the line of scrimmage to spike the ball and set up a field goal, but they couldn't get a play off, and the game ended in a tie.

Fans blasted Daniels, Dan Quinn and the Commanders for the late-game error on social media.

The Commanders' woes began well before overtime. After allowing the Giants to make a second-half comeback, Daniels and the offense had one last chance to score in regulation, but instead had to punt, setting up overtime.

The Giants got the ball first in overtime and missed a field goal, but Washington faced a three-and-out on its first overtime drive.

The Commanders' defense stepped up to force Skattebo to fumble in the red zone, leaving just under two minutes to make a field goal or score. A string of passes and runs got the ball where it needed to be, but the lack of time management led to a play that will be remembered by Commanders fans for the rest of the year.

Washington hoped to get back on track with a win with Daniels back under center, but it will instead move to 1-3-1 as the playoffs continue to fall further out of reach.

The good news for the Commanders is that the NFC East has collectively struggled to start the year, so winning the division to reach the postseason is still realistic.

Things will get even more difficult next week, though, as Washington takes on an undefeated San Francisco 49ers squad.
