Tyson Bagent Benched by Bears After 2 INTs vs. Packers, Replaced by Case Keenum amid Caleb Injury
Tyson Bagent led the Chicago Bears to a win over the New York Jets last week, but Ben Johnson saw enough after a rough showing against the Green Bay Packers.
Bagent, who is filling in under center for the injured Caleb Williams, threw a pair of interceptions against the Bears' divisional rival, and Johnson opted to turn to Case Keenum at quarterback.
Bagent came in for Williams in Week 2 against the Minnesota Vikings, but a concussion forced him to miss the following week against the Philadelphia Eagles. Keenum was under center for that game and threw for 247 yards and two touchdowns in an upset win.
Despite Keenum's strong showing against Philadelphia in Week 3, the Bears turned back to Bagent against the Jets last week. He put together a decent showing in the 23-12 win over New York, throwing for 268 yards on 25-of-34 passing with one interception.
At the time of his benching on Sunday, the Bears trailed the Packers 31-7, and Bagent had completed 12 of his 21 passes for 87 yards, along with two interceptions.
Keenum didn't have much more luck after coming in for Bagent, as he threw an interception on his first drive and the Bears fumbled on the next.
Williams has been out since Week 2 because of a Grade 2 right hamstring strain he suffered against the Vikings.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported before Sunday's game that Williams has "a chance" to return for next week's game against the Atlanta Falcons. The Ringer's Tom Pelissero noted that Williams' return could come "sometime in the next several weeks."
The Bears are hoping to get back to the playoffs this year, and while their backups have kept them afloat, getting Williams back will give them a significant boost.
