Making his return from a left elbow injury, quarterback Jayden Daniels and the Washington Commanders tied the New York Giants 27-27 in Sunday's Week 5 game at Northwest Stadium in Landover, Maryland.

Despite entering the game 1-3 compared to the Giants' 3-1 mark, the Commanders were 3.5-point favorites, according to FanDuel Sportsbook. Playing in rainy conditions, the Giants overcame a 14-point deficit to force overtime and ultimately secure the tie.

The Commanders were positioned to win the game in OT with a field goal, but after a Daniels scramble, they were unable to spike the ball before time ran out:

After modest production in the first half, there were plenty of offensive fireworks in the second half, resulting in some solid performances for fantasy football:

Daniels dislocated his non-throwing elbow during a Week 2 loss to the Dallas Cowboys, causing him to miss the Commanders' Week 3 upset of the Seattle Seahawks and Week 4 loss to the Indianapolis Colts.

The 2024 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year missed much of last season with a similar injury, but he was able to return to action Sunday while wearing a brace on his left elbow.

On the opening drive against New York, Daniels and the Washington offense quickly worked their way down the field.

Daniels completed passes of 11 and 23 yards to tight end Chig Okonkwo, and running back Jacory Croskey-Merritt scampered 33 yards for a rushing touchdown:

Commanders kicker Drew Stevens missed the extra point, but he made a pair of field goals later in the half, while Giants kicker Dominic Zvada made one of his own, resulting in a 9-3 Washington lead at halftime.

New York made it 9-6 with another field goal early in the third quarter, only for the Commanders to answer on the next drive with a dynamic, 38-yard touchdown run by Daniels:

On the ensuing drive, Giants quarterback Jameis Winston appeared to be intercepted at the goal line, but Commanders cornerback Amik Robertson was controversially called for pass interference.

Three plays later, Winston threw a one-yard touchdown pass to tight end Isaiah Likely to make it 19-13:

The Commanders shook off what may have been a bad break by putting together an impressive, eight-play, 81-yard drive.

It culminated in Daniels' second rushing touchdown of the day, this time from 26 yards out:

With that, Daniels accomplished something that hadn't been done by an NFL quarterback in 24 years:

The Commanders added a two-point conversion from Daniels to Terry McLaurin to make it a 14-point lead:

The next drive was the fourth in a row that ended with a touchdown, as Winston hit Likely for a 17-yard score, cutting the Washington lead to 27-20:

Initially ruled a fumble recovered by the Commanders in the end zone, it was ruled after review that Likely had broken the plane of the goal line with the football.

After forcing a Washington punt, the Giants continued their offensive onslaught, tying the game 27-27 with 1:43 left in regulation on a 17-yard touchdown pass from Winston to Malik Nabers:

The game went to overtime, and Zvada missed what would have been a go-ahead, 46-yard field goal on the Giants' first possession of OT, marking his third miss of the day.

New York forced a Washington punt on the next drive, though, and the Giants made two chunk plays to get into Commanders territory, as running back Cam Skattebo had a 19-yard rush, and Winston had a 28-yard hookup with Nabers.

However, with the Giants in field goal range, Skattebo lost a fumble, giving the Commanders new life with 1:55 left in the extra session.

Daniels quickly moved the Commanders down the field with a 16-yard scramble and completions of 16 and 13 yards to McLaurin and Treylon Burks, respectively.

Just when it looked like the Commanders were about to pull off the win, clock mismanagement was their undoing.

With the tie, the Giants remain atop the NFC East at 3-1-1, 1.5 games ahead of the 2-3 Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles.

The Commanders will have a tough challenge on their hands in Week 6 on Monday Night Football when they go on the road to face a San Francisco 49ers team that was undefeated entering Week 5.

As for the Giants, they will host the New Orleans Saints and their high-flying offense next Sunday.
