5 WWE Matches Money in the Bank Just Made Possible
WWE produced one of its most popular premium live events of the calendar year, Saturday night in New Orleans, in Money in the Bank, from which the company has a handful of matches it can book moving forward.
From a hellish grudge match featuring hatred both on and off the screen to a world title match featuring the biggest star of today and the face of the future, they are matches with long-reaching effects on the WWE product.
What are they?
Let's take a look.
CM Punk vs. Kevin Owens
1 of 5
Punk vs. Owens was a match that anyone paying even the slightest bit of attention to the WWE product knew was coming. It was even more obvious after a Money in the Bank Ladder Match that saw them lose the chance to cash in and become champion by costing each other the victory.
Owens and Punk have a genuine hatred for each other that plays well on TV, feels believable, and has yet to reach a definitive conclusion.
Emerging from the latest premium live event, it is a program destined to wrap up in a high-profile match-up between them, potentially with high stakes, ala a title match awaiting the winner.
Je'Von Evans vs. Bron Breakker
2 of 5
The Young OG and The Badass had an intense, physical match-up on the lead-in to Money in the Bank, and the unsettled issues between them are only heating up following the events of Saturday night's show.
First, Breakker injured Evans with a vicious spear. Then, the babyface rode an ambulance back into the arena, thereby distracting his rival just long enough to spoil his momentum.
From there, they engaged in a hard-hitting back-and-forth that culminated in one of the damnedest spots in Money in the Bank history as Evans was pushed off a ladder and crashed through the roof of an ambulance.
One simply does not have that much interaction with no intention of paying it off in a one-on-one battle that, hopefully, gives the Young OG enough rub to make a main event run possible.
Tiffany Stratton vs. Chelsea Green
3 of 5
Much has been made of the decision to have Stratton win her second Money in the Bank briefcase, becoming just the second woman to do so, but there is a precedent for it based on the storyline playing out each week on SmackDown.
Stratton has become increasingly friendly with WWE Women's Champion Chelsea Green, despite initial hesitancy to align herself with the Hot Mess.
Now, she has a briefcase that guarantees her a title shot whenever she wants.
What better way to turn Stratton back heel than by having her betray the beloved Green and take her title from her? That makes the spoiled rich girl the hated heel she was intended to be and drums up further sympathy for Green.
Ironically enough, the same fans denouncing that creative idea are the ones who were championing Roxanne Perez to win the briefcase, then do the same thing to Liv Morgan, despite the teases of dissension within Judgment Day not being omnipresent in weeks.
Stephanie Vaquer vs. Becky Lynch
4 of 5
Liv Morgan may have regained the Women's World Championship, but it was the intensified dislike between Vaquer and Lynch that was most notable in Saturday's Triple Threat Match.
The two babyfaces' inability to set aside their issues led to La Primera sending The Man into a table at ringside, a distraction that allowed Morgan to recover and deliver Oblivion to Vaquer for the win.
Lynch and Vaquer must settle their differences, and a marquee match-up between two of the best wrestlers on the planet feels like an appropriate way to do so. Booking them go to the ring without any distractions or unnecessary overbooking, letting them beat each other up, and having the best woman emerge victorious is something the WWE Universe will absolutely get behind.
Based on what happened Saturday, it is no longer a dream match. Instead, it is a creative must.
Oba Femi vs. Roman Reigns
5 of 5
If you did no already know that the direction for this year's WrestleMania 43 is Oba Femi vs. Roman Reigns for the World Heavyweight Championship, you do after Saturday's Money in the Bank post-show.
The Ruler bested Bronson Reed in a brilliant battle of the heavyweights, during which he tossed the Auszilla around the ring with ease and eventually overcame a back injury and interference from The Vision to earn the win.
After the show, Femi joined the post-show panel and, amid a chant of "OTC" from the fans in New Orleans, Femi issued a warning to Reigns, telling him there was no more running and that time is running out.
It is the biggest, freshest main event match WWE can produce and one that will result in the Ruler's coronation as the company's next face.
