Western and Southern Open 2015: Tuesday Tennis Scores, Results, Latest Schedule
The Western and Southern Open continued in Cincinnati on Tuesday, with the men and women each losing a player seeded in the top 10.
The biggest name in action on either side, Roger Federer, had no problems taking out Roberto Bautista Agut in straight sets.
However, No. 9 Milos Raonic was upended in straight sets by Feliciano Lopez. For the women, it was unseeded American Sloane Stephens sending No. 10 Carla Suarez Navarro home early.
It was a big day for upsets overall, as six ranked players went down, including four of the top 16 on the women's side. Everyone is making their final preparations for the U.S. Open, so every shot takes on added weight for all of the players.
Here's a look at the results from Tuesday, as well as how the schedule shakes out for tomorrow.

Recap
Federer, who has won this tournament six times and is the defending champion, needs to get his legs back under him after not playing an ATP event since losing to Novak Djokovic in the Wimbledon final.
Of course, Federer may have expected some rust because of his long layoff. The 34-year-old told reporters before the start of the tournament that he felt energized, per Shannon Russell of the Cincinnati Enquirer.
"I'm fresh and obviously eager to play and can't wait for the tournament to start, really," Federer said. "Practice has been going very well. I'm very happy with how I'm feeling."
This wasn't a vintage Federer performance, as he converted just 42 percent of his first serves and had two double-faults in the first set, but his ability to fight through the adversity to get the win over Agut is the important thing at this stage.
While Federer can rest easy knowing he will play at least one more round in Cincinnati, Raonic is a player seeking answers. The 24-year-old is facing the real possibility that this could be his first year without a tournament win since 2010.
Raonic has been trending down as the year has gone on. He's lost his first match in each of the last two tournaments, which is coming after a run of five straight events in which he lost his third match.
Stephanie Myles of Yahoo Sports did share one possible explanation for Raonic's struggles on Tuesday against Lopez:
If Raonic's back problems linger, his frustrating season figures to continue heading into the year's final major tournament.
Joining Raonic on the train home is No. 11 John Isner. The world's highest-ranked American man was knocked off by fellow countryman Sam Querrey in straight sets.
It's Isner's earliest exit from an ATP event since the Hall of Fame Tennis Championships in mid-July, one that he didn't seem to take well based on this tweet from freelance writer Douglas Robson:
One player whose stock continues to rise heading into the U.S. Open is Belinda Bencic. The 18-year-old out of Switzerland won the Rogers Cup last week and kept the good vibes rolling with a straight-set win over No. 11 Angelique Kerber on Tuesday.
In fact, per tennis reporter Chris Goldsmith, here's the list of players Bencic has gone through just in the last week:
Serena Williams will be the heavy favorite in New York, but based on how things are going right now, Bencic could easily end up as the No. 2 player in the eyes of oddsmakers before all is said and done.
The field this week also opened up for Bencic—and everyone else—when Maria Sharapova was forced to withdraw due to a leg injury, per WTA on Twitter.
Stephens' win over Suarez Navarro was much needed for the young American star. She has been playing better overall lately, posting a 19-5 record in her past 24 matches after today, but she lost in the first round at the Rogers Cup last week.
Speaking to WTATennis.com, Stephens credits her turnaround to simply playing to her strengths and blocking everything else out:
"I always knew what I needed to do, to use my strengths, what I needed to do on the court, but I think a big part of that is execution and actually doing it. Kind of just like playing fearless tennis, getting out there and swinging your racquet even when you don't think that you should or you're too tight. I think for me now I'm just kind of like, 'You've got to get out there and play. What are you doing?' There are matches to be won and people to be beat. I have got to get it going.
"
This is a crucial time for Stephens. She's 22 years old, no longer young enough to be called a rising phenom, but still trying to establish herself as a consistent threat to win tournaments. Beating Suarez Navarro continues her positive momentum.
With so many players having gone through the rigors of a long season, it's easy to understand why more upsets may be coming in this event.
Even a player like Federer went through some struggles before things finally came together. It will make for an interesting and dramatic week in Cincinnati, as more shockers are going to come before a champion is crowned.
