Odell Beckham Jr. Reportedly Elevated to Vikings' Active Roster Days After Signing New Contract
The Minnesota Vikings are reportedly elevating wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. from the practice squad to the active roster before their road game at the New Orleans Saints on Sunday, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
The Vikings' top two receivers, Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison, are both questionable for Sunday with ankle and hamstring injuries, respectively.
Minnesota signed Beckham to its practice squad on Wednesday, eight days after the New York Giants released the veteran.
It's unclear if Beckham will actually play, per Tom Pelissero of The Ringer and Netflix, but he'll be in position to do so. Minnesota can still make him inactive on Sunday.
Beckham largely dominated the NFL during his first stint with the Giants (2014-2018). He made three Pro Bowls and two All-Pro Second Teams and posted 1,000+ yards in every season except 2017, which ended early due to a fractured left ankle.
The Giants traded Beckham to the Cleveland Browns in 2019. He had another 1,000-yard season but suffered a torn ACL in 2020, ending his season after seven games. Beckham has dealt with numerous injuries since then and has enjoyed only one close-to-full season (2023, with the Baltimore Ravens) this decade.
Beckham showed the Giants enough to make the 53-man roster coming out of training camp.
It didn't work out in New York. Head coach John Harbaugh's team relies heavily on tight ends and has consistently used only three wideouts—Malik Nabers, Malachi Fields, and Darnell Mooney. Beckham saw only one catchless target in limited action with the Giants over three games.
Perhaps he'll get a chance in Minnesota as soon as Sunday. Jefferson and Addison had limited practices Thursday and Friday, so that at least gives hope they'll play.
Teams must submit their inactive list to the NFL 90 minutes before kickoff. The Vikings and Saints kick off Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
