Andy Dalton In Line to End Up On Wrong Side of NFL History With Rare Stat After Eagles Release

Quarterback Andy Dalton could make NFL history if he doesn't throw another pass after his reported release by the Philadelphia Eagles.

Dalton was picked off when attempting his lone pass attempt so far this season in a Week 3 loss to the Chicago Bears.

He could now become the seventh quarterback to finish a season 0-for-1 with an interception if he doesn't see any more playing time this season, per the AP's Josh Dubow.

Dalton's interception took place on a red zone drive that took place while Jalen Hurts was undergoing a concussion check in the second quarter of the Week 3 loss.

The last player to achieve that season-long statline as a quarterback was Feleipe Franks with the Atlanta Falcons in 2021, per Dubow. Franks is currently playing as a tight end and special teamer for the Carolina Panthers.

There's still a chance Dalton could improve his passing rate this season. Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer tied Dalton's release to the Eagles' need for space on the 53-man roster, and noted the quarterback could potentially return as a practice squad member.

The Eagles traded a seventh-round pick to the Carolina Panthers last spring in order to acquire Dalton, who later won beat out Tanner McKee to begin the season as Philadelphia's QB2. McKee is now set to serve as Hurts' backup going forward.
