The Tampa Bay Buccaneers survived a late comeback attempt by the Dallas Cowboys, sealing a 24-16 victory Thursday night with a game-clinching interception.

Dallas entered the matchup as 8.5-point favorites over the Buccaneers at home, according to FanDuel Sportsbook. Tampa Bay entered Thursday's game without its starting quarterback but took advantage of a disastrous third quarter by the Cowboys to build a lead and hold on for the win.

Mayfield remained sidelined with a right thumb injury suffered in the Buccaneers' Week 3 loss to the Minnesota Vikings.

Rookie Jalon Daniels, a Kansas product, led Tampa Bay to its first win of the season in his second start.

After one quarter, each team had held possession just once, with the Cowboys scoring on a Javonte Williams run up the middle to cap a 4:09 drive.

The Buccaneers' first drive lasted 10:58, stretching into the second quarter, but ended with a 5-yard touchdown pass from Daniels to Bucky Irving to even the score at seven apiece.

A series of punts, six combined, and one more field goal by the Cowboys sent the teams into halftime, with Dallas leading 10-7.

It took Tampa Bay just one minute this time to find the end zone, with Irving setting the team up on a 72-yard run and Emeka Egbuka finishing the near-perfect drive with a 14-yard rushing touchdown to open the half.

Meanwhile, Dallas' disastrous third quarter was just beginning. Prescott threw an interception after six plays, with Buccaneers linebacker Yaya Diaby grabbing the ball.

Tampa Bay scored on its next possession, with Irving recording his second touchdown of the night as the Buccaneers took a 21-10 lead.

With 7:31 remaining and hopes of turning things around at home, KaVontae Turpin fumbled on the following punt return. The Buccaneers capitalized, getting into field goal position to extend their lead to 24-10 before forcing the Cowboys to turn the ball over on downs ahead of the fourth quarter.

With a chance to put the game out of reach with a field goal and extend their lead to three scores, the Buccaneers opted to go for it on fourth-and-goal but failed to convert, giving the Cowboys the ball back trailing 24-10 with 8:32 remaining.

In a worst-case scenario for Tampa Bay, it took Prescott just 2:13 to charge 99-yards down the field and finish the drive connecting with George Pickens in the end zone, cutting the deficit to one score despite a failed two-point conversion.

A three-and-out gave the Cowboys another chance, but a pass intended for Jake Ferguson bounced off his hands and was intercepted by Alex Anzalone. The Buccaneers then picked up a first down to seal the win.

Tampa Bay will host the Pittsburgh Steelers next Sunday at 1 p.m. ET, while the Cowboys will hit the road to face the Green Bay Packers later that day for Sunday Night Football, with kickoff scheduled for 8:20 p.m. ET.
