New Cowboys Rumors on Joey Porter Jr.'s Illness with CB Surprisingly Out vs. Bucs

After making his debut with the Dallas Cowboys last week, Joey Porter Jr. won't be on the field on Thursday.

The cornerback was seemingly set to play against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but was listed as inactive about an hour before kickoff. He is reportedly dealing with an illness that has caused him to vomit.

Porter played 25 snaps in his Cowboys debut against the Houston Texans last week and was hoping to get more action in his first game at AT&T Stadium, but he'll instead have to wait until next week to get back on the field.

According to NFL Network's Jane Slater, Porter was sick when he arrived at the facility and was sent home.

With Porter ruled out at the last minute, the Cowboys will likely turn to second-year corner Shavon Revel in his spot. Revel has been dealing with knee and ankle issues since Week 3 but is active for Thursday's contest.

The former third-round pick has logged nine tackles and a pass defended through his first four games this year.

The Cowboys acquired Porter from the Pittsburgh Steelers last week in return for a 2027 sixth-round pick and a 2028 second-round pick. Porter and the Steelers had previously struggled to reach a new contract before the season.

"We hope that this is not only an improvement in, just generally, our personnel, but we hope it really can be one that he really finds his level," Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said about the trade. "I would hope it would mirror maybe the George Pickens move that brought him in. I know that's a pretty high bar, that's pretty high expectations, but you have to have 'em to make a trade like this."

Porter had not yet played this season before being traded to Dallas, and he's now facing another setback. Whether his illness will carry into next week remains to be seen.
