Eagles' Cam Jurgens Traded to Ravens After Lane Johnson's Retirement, Full Details Revealed
Two of the Philadelphia Eagles' five starting offensive linemen this season are no longer on the team with Cam Jurgens getting traded one day after Lane Johnson retired.
The Eagles announced on Wednesday they are trading Jurgens and a 2027 seventh-round draft pick to the Baltimore Ravens for a 2027 fifth-round pick and a 2028 second-round selection.
Johnson, who missed Philadelphia's loss to the Los Angeles Rams for personal reasons, announced on Tuesday he was retiring after 14 seasons.
"Right now, it is critical that I focus on my mental health. I owe it to my teammates, coaches, the organization and the fans to have my head and heart 100 percent in the game. And right now my heart is telling me that it's time to say goodbye to football," Johnson wrote as part of his statement.
The decision to trade Jurgens immediately on the heels of Johnson's decision is surprising, though his performance so far this season has left something to be desired.
Per Pro Football Focus metrics (h/t Brenden Deeg of The Score), Jurgens ranks in the bottom five among 87 qualified interior offensive linemen in pass-blocking grade, pressures allowed and pass-blocking efficiency.
Jurgens is under contract through the 2029 season after signing a four-year, $68 million extension in April 2025. His cap hits in the next three seasons, not including 2026, are $9.2 million, $12.3 million and $16.3 million.
Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, Jurgens is currently in concussion protocol and not likely to play in Week 5. He is expected to make his Ravens debut against the Cleveland Browns on Oct. 18.
The Ravens entered this season with Jovaughn Gwyn as their starting center after losing Tyler Linderbaum to the Las Vegas Raiders in free agency.
Gwyn suffered a fractured fibula in Baltimore's Week 3 win over the Dallas Cowboys that will keep him out for at least two to three months. Olaivavega Ioane, the No. 14 pick in the 2026 NFL draft, moved from guard to center in Week 4 and didn't allow a pressure in 34 pass-blocking snaps against the Tennessee Titans.
The addition of Jurgens allows the Ravens to shift Ioane back to right guard. If Jurgens returns to the form in Baltimore that made him a two-time Pro Bowler with the Eagles, the trade cost will be a small price to pay.
Philadelphia turned a player it seemed to lose faith in into a potentially valuable second-round pick in the 2028 draft that can be used to select a young player or potentially package in another trade to add a piece that can help the roster right now.
