Odell Beckham Jr.'s Fantasy Outlook with Kyler Murray, Justin Jefferson After Vikings Contract

The Minnesota Vikings added to their already talented wide receiver corps Wednesday by signing Odell Beckham Jr. to their practice squad.

If OBJ is eventually elevated to the 53-man roster, he will become part of a receiver room that includes Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, Jauan Jennings and 2025 third-round pick Tai Felton.

Given that Beckham is starting on the practice squad, is not guaranteed to get a call-up and would be behind three or four other capable wideouts on Minnesota's depth chart, it would not be advisable to count on him for any modicum of fantasy football production.

Jefferson is the Vikings' unquestioned No. 1 receiver and go-to target when healthy, although he did miss last week's win against the Miami Dolphins with an ankle injury.

However, head coach Kevin O'Connell told reporters it would not be a long-term issue, which suggests he could be back as soon as Week 5.

Addison is the established WR2 in O'Connell's offense, and although Jennings has just two catches for nine yards in the three games he has appeared in this season, he has a history of success, registering 975 receiving yards in 2024 and scoring nine touchdowns last season with the San Francisco 49ers.

With Jefferson out, quarterback Kyler Murray made tight end T.J. Hockenson his favorite target, as Hockenson racked up 13 catches for 119 yards against Miami.

On top of that, running back Aaron Jones is a capable pass-catcher out of the backfield, as his nine receptions rank fourth on the team.

All of that is to say the Vikings have no shortage of offensive weapons, and barring additional injuries, Beckham likely wouldn't be anything more than a veteran presence and a modest contributor.

OBJ was once among the NFL's best wide receivers during his time with the New York Giants, averaging 96 receptions for 1,374 yards and nearly 12 touchdowns over his first three NFL seasons from 2014 to 2016, and earning three Pro Bowl selections during that stretch.

However, Beckham has never quite been the same player as he once was since tearing his ACL during the Los Angeles Rams' Super Bowl win over the Cincinnati Bengals to close out the 2021 season.

The Giants brought him back to the Big Apple this past offseason and he made the initial 53-man roster, which was one of the biggest feel-good stories of the preseason.

Beckham did not record a catch in three games to start the regular season, though, and the Giants parted ways with him on Sept. 29.

While the soon-to-be 34-year-old Beckham has found a new landing spot, he figures to serve as depth rather than an important part of the Minnesota offense.
