Lewis Hamilton Posts Behind-the-Scenes Video of Restoration of Ultra Rare Ferrari F40
One month after showing up in Italy in his Ferrari F40ย prior to the Italian Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton has offered a more in-depth look at the iconic car.
In a video posted on his YouTube channel, Hamilton walks viewers through the months-long process of restoring the Ferrari F40.
In an Instagram post on Aug. 31, Hamilton wrote he got his "very own F40" and it was the "car of my dreams" that he had been wanting since he was a kid:
"These cars are works of art and incredibly rare, so when I found this one, covered in dust after being sat in a garage for over thirty years, I knew I had to bring her home. First to Maranello, where the master engineers and mechanics at the factory worked for weeks to bring her back to life. Massive thank you to everyone who had a hand in this project. This has truly been a dream come true. I can't wait to share more with you all."
Per ESPN's Laurence Edmondson, the Ferrari F40 was in production from 1987 to '92. There were only around 1,315 made during that period. It was also the last model to receive personal approval from Enzo Ferrari prior to his death in 1988.
Given how few of the cars were produced, their values typically range between $2.5-4 million, with the highest sale price on record being $11.5 million at a Sotheby's auction in August 2025.
Hamilton first showed off the luxury sports car in Monza as he prepared for the Italian Grand Prix.
Hamilton joined the Ferrari team for the 2025 F1 season. He finished sixth overall in his first year with the club, but he has taken steps forward so far in 2026.
The 41-year-old is currently third in the standings and won the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix in June, his first victory since the 2024 season.
