San Francisco nearly took a three-point lead to close out the second quarter on a 54-yard attempt by Eddy Pineiro that was blocked, as both teams entered the break knotted at three.

The tides shifted for the 49ers in the third quarter after a fumble on a punt return was recovered by safety Siran Neal and turned into the game's first touchdown on a Purdy connection to Deebo Samuel for six.

McCaffrey and the 49ers kept it going in the fourth with a short rushing touchdown to take a 17-6 lead after a Broncos field goal.

Nix found Jaylen Waddle shortly after for six points, adding a tricky two-point conversion to narrow the gap to three points.

It turned into a tit-for-tat battle as each team traded scores down the line, with San Francisco's Kittle getting in on the fun with a 56-yard reception from Purdy to take a 10-point lead.

The 49ers defense held strong, forcing a missed 60-yard field goal attempt to close out the win.
