Week 5 Waiver Wire Breakout Fantasy Football Pickups from Sunday's Box Scores

For fantasy managers, NFL Week 4 created several new opportunities worth chasing on waivers.

Some players become waiver-wire candidates for breakout performances or increased playing time. Others step up when someone ahead of them on the depth chart gets injured.

Buffalo Bills wideout Keon Coleman, Cincinnati Bengals tight end Mike Gesicki and Arizona Cardinals running back Tyler Allgeier each land on fantasy managers' radar this week for one of those reasons.

We'll take a closer look at why each of these players is worth a flier this week. None of the three is guaranteed to become a fantasy difference-maker. But that's why they're worth targeting now; the potential payoff is much greater than the investment of a claim.

Keon Coleman, WR, Buffalo Bills

Week 4 stats: 6 rec, 116 rec yds, 1 rec TD, 23.6 pts

Rostered: 8%

When Bills wideout DJ Moore exited Sunday's tilt against the New England Patriots with a shoulder injury, Keon Coleman made the most of his opportunity.

The Bills receiver exploded for six catches on seven targets, amassing 116 yards and finding the end zone. Coleman showed the kind of big-play upside that makes fantasy managers sit up and take notice.

Even without Moore, there are a lot of mouths to feed in Buffalo. Still, Coleman became a go-to option for Josh Allen, leading all pass-catchers in targets.

By the end of Sunday's afternoon slate, Coleman was set to finish seventh among all fantasy wideouts in Week 4. With Moore potentially missing time, there's a legitimate path to more volume for Coleman.

Mike Gesicki, TE, Cincinnati Bengals

2 of 3
NFL: OCT 04 Jaguars at Bengals

Week 4 stats: 3 rec, 40 rec yds, 1 rec TD, 13.0 pts

Rostered: 11%

When Bengals star wideout Ja'Marr Chase left the game against the Jaguars with a concussion, the rest of Cincinnati's passing corps needed to step up for Joe Burrow and the Bengals' high-volume passing offense.

Gesicki took the opportunity and ran with it, bringing in three of five targets for 40 yards and a touchdown. It was the tight end's third touchdown in four games, which should be all fantasy managers need to know to submit a claim for him. This is not a player whose value is dependent on converting in the red zone.

Burrow threw the ball 54 times on Sunday, so if Chase misses time, there's going to be a lot of opportunity for Gesicki.

Tyler Allgeier, RB, Arizona Cardinals

3 of 3
NFL: OCT 04 Cardinals at Giants

Week 4 stats: 8 att, 42 rush yds, 1 rush TD, 2 rec, 7 rec yds, 12.9 pts

Rostered: 42%

Jeremiyah Love is clearly the starting running back in Arizona; heading into Week 4, he has received about 81% of the backfield work for the Cardinals.

But Week 4 showed that Tyler Allgeier has value as a handcuff, if not RB2 should Love get injured.

Even with limited touches in Week 4, Allgeier found the end zone and averaged 5.25 yards per carry against the New York Giants. If he's available in your league, he's worth stashing, especially if you roster Love or have room on your bench.
