Angel Reese Shades Sky After Winning WNBA DPOY, Explains How Dream Trade Let Her Reach Potential
Angel Reese's first season with the Atlanta Dream saw her take home the WNBA Defensive Player of the Year award.
Reese was traded to Atlanta by the Chicago Sky last offseason, and she said winning the award wasn't possible with her former team.
"I knew who I was going to be coming into the league. Obviously, I didn't have the opportunity to do that in the past two years," Reese told reporters Sunday (5:20 mark). "...Being able to come here to Atlanta, I knew what I was expected; I knew that I was gonna be put on a pedestal of being able to play with great players... Being able to be here in Atlanta, just really grateful to have sisters in the locker room that genuinely care about me."

Reese put up 16.4 points, 12.1 rebounds, 1.8 steals and 0.7 blocks per game this season, marking the best defensive season of her career and the best season as a whole.
She also reached the postseason for the first time in her career and has gotten off to a good start. She posted 17 points, seven boards, four steals and three blocks in a 92-82 win over the New York Liberty in Game 1 of the semifinals.
Reese has already taken home some individual hardware this year, but she'll look to add to her resume with a championship.
