The short-handed Chicago Bears defeated the New York Jets 23-12 behind a standout performance from running back Kyle Monangai on Sunday at home.

Despite being without starting quarterback Caleb Williams, who remains sidelined with a hamstring injury, the Bears entered the matchup as 3.5-point favorites over the Jets, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.

Behind a strong defensive performance that held the Jets to just 157 total yards and a solid showing on third down, converting 7-of-15 attempts, the Chicago Bears improved to 3-1 while the Jets fell to 1-3.

After eating up the clock on their opening drive but turning the ball over on downs, Chicago's Monangai ran it in for a touchdown following a 12-play, 57-yard drive to close out the first quarter with a 7-0 lead.

Jets safety Minkah Fitzpatrick came up with a big interception in the second quarter to get his defense going, marking the team's first in 637 days and setting up the Jets' first score of the day on a field goal.

Chicago added two field goals of its own to enter halftime with a 10-point lead.

The Jets' offensive woes continued out of halftime, adding another field goal while punting twice more as they struggled to get their offense moving downfield.

Chicago's own offensive mistakes allowed the Jets to stay in the game, as D'Andre Swift fumbled the ball away at Chicago's 28-yard line. Monangai made up for it one possession later with his second touchdown of the game.

The Jets found their first touchdown of the game a little too late, coming with 9:16 left in the fourth quarter on a 58-yard bomb from Smith to Isaiah Williams.ย

Ultimately, they ran out of time after an 18-play drive and an earlier field goal from the Bears helped seal the 23-12 win.

New York will host the Cleveland Browns next Sunday, while the Bears will hit the road to face the Green Bay Packers the same day. Both games are scheduled for a 1 p.m. ET kickoff.
