Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani provided a positive update to reporters regarding ailments in his left knee (inflammation, soreness, lingering pain) and right biceps (discomfort, pain) on Friday, one day before L.A. will host the Atlanta Braves for Game 1 of the National League Division Series.

Ohtani hasn't pitched since July 3 due to the issues, but he's largely remained in the batting lineup, hitting .275 (.889 OPS) with 30 home runs and 81 RBI in 135 games.

Ohtani was placed on the injured list in September due to knee and biceps issues. He was out from Sept. 8-22 but returned for his team's final five regular-season games.

A big question remains about whether Ohtani, who has managed these ailments for months, will need further medical attention this offseason.

The knee issue first arose on June 11, when he left a game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Ohtani was removed from his July 3 start against the San Diego Padres due to the right biceps issue.

In the meantime, Ohtani may have benefited from five days of rest this week after the Dodgers, the National League's No. 2 playoff seed, bypassed the Wild Card Round.

Ohtani clearly feels good right now based on his comments, and we'll see how he fares soon enough when L.A. faces Atlanta for its 4 p.m. ET matchup.
