Seth Rollins Gives Update on Status of WWE Contract, Future With Company, Retirement Timeline
Amid his recent hiatus from WWE programming, Seth Rollins provided an update this week on his contractual status and future plans with the company.
Speaking to Richard Deitsch of Sports Business Journal, Rollins said, "Right now, I've got three years left on my WWE contract—I'll be 43 when that's up. I want to be with WWE as long as I can continue to contribute and feel I'm helping the product, as opposed to taking up space that could be better utilized for younger talent."
Rollins, who is also a rising star in the sports media world as a guest host for Good Morning Football and The Rich Eisen Show, noted that he wants to continue fielding offers in that space as well while he is an active wrestler.
The Visionary added, "Once we get closer to the next contract with WWE, it'll be like, 'OK, what does this look like? Is there any interest from an ESPN for a bigger role or something that's more substantial, something that can provide for me after pro wrestling?' Right now, I'm very happy where I'm at and that I get to do both."
A six-time WWE world champion and one of the biggest pro wrestling stars of his generation, Rollins is still at the top of his game.
At SummerSlam in August, Rollins challenged Roman Reigns for the World Heavyweight Championship in the main event. Although Rollins fell short, he and Reigns stole the show with arguably the best match on the card.
Since then, Rollins has been kept off WWE programming, likely while the creative team figures out the most impactful way to bring him back into the fold.
Rollins has worked some live events during his WWE TV absence, though, most notably during the company's tour of South America last month.
With three years left on his deal, Rollins has plenty of time left to continue adding to his legacy, and his comments suggest that he may be interested in signing another contract when this one expires, particularly if it allows him to pursue outside interests as well.
