Tony Romo's tenure with CBS Sports is over.

CBS Sports issued a statement on Friday announcing a mutual parting of ways with Romo and JJ Watt will remain part of the lead NFL broadcast team for the remainder of this season.

Romo pleaded no contest to an OWI charge in a court appearance on Sept. 1. The former Dallas Cowboys quarterback was arrested after a traffic stop in Milwaukee on July 23.

Romo issued a statement in the wake of Friday's news about his time at CBS Sports:

"I'm going to use this time to take a break, something I've never done before, and focus on my health and my family before moving on to my next opportunity. I am grateful for my time with CBS Sports and for the continued support of my family and friends, as well as the NFL community and fans."

The network placed Romo on indefinite leave on July 31, just over one week after his arrest. Watt, who joined CBS' NFL broadcast crew in 2025 as part of the No. 2 team with Ian Eagle, was elevated to the lead squad with Jim Nantz and Tracy Wolfson.

Romo joined CBS Sports after retiring as a player in April 2017. CBS Sports signed him to a 10-year, $180 million contract extension in 2020.

During his eight years with the network, Romo was in the broadcast booth for three Super Bowls at the end of the 2018, 2020 and 2023 seasons.
