MLB Won't Play Game at Grand Teton National Park After Exploring Idea, Rob Manfred Says
Major League Baseball has decided against moving forward with the idea of potentially holding a regular-season game at Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming.
Johnny Flores Jr. of The Athletic obtained a letter sent by MLB commissioner Rob Manfred to Teton County officials. In it, Manfred noted that MLB had done "due diligence" on Grand Teton National Park as a potential site for a game, but ultimately opted to not pursue it any further.
"That said, since the story was reported, it has become clear the local community does not want us to continue evaluating Grand Teton National Park as a potential site," Manfred wrote. "We obviously would not bring a game to a community that has concerns about the venue, and will not continue to evaluate Grand Teton National Park as a potential site."
Jake Spring and Stephanie Apstein of the Washington Post reported Monday that MLB was in contact with the Trump administration about a potential game being played at a national park.
National Park Service Deputy Director Frank Lands reportedly scouted three sites within Grand Teton National Park to see if building a ballpark would be possible.
For the past decade, MLB has periodically held games at unique locations, including Fort Bragg in North Carolina, the Field of Dreams park in Iowa, Rickwood Field in Alabama and Bristol Motor Speedway in Tennessee.
MLB has also played a game at the site of the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, every year since 2017, with the exception of 2020.
A national park would have been perhaps the biggest undertaking yet due to the amount of red tape MLB would have had to go through in order to gain approval.
MLB games are scheduled to be held at the Field of Dreams and Bowman Field in Williamsport next season, but no plans are in place yet for 2028.
Had MLB continued its efforts to bring a game to Grand Teton National Park, 2028 was the target year for it to happen, per Flores.
