DeVonta Smith Injured, Latest News on Eagles WR's Status vs. Rams Amid Hamstring Issue

The Philadelphia Eagles might be without their top wide receiver this week.

Per ESPN's Tim McManus, there isn't "much optimism" that DeVonta Smith will play against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday as he continues to deal with a hamstring injury.

Smith has had a strong start to the season, hauling in 19 catches for 235 yards and a touchdown. He had a 117-yard performance against the Tennessee Titans in Week 2 before recording 65 yards last week against the Chicago Bears.

Smith also missed practice last Thursday before ramping up to play against the Bears, but it appears his chances of doing that again this week are slim.

Being without Smith would severely limit the Eagles' offense, and tight end Dallas Goedert is also likely to miss Sunday's game because of an MCL sprain he suffered in Week 2. Despite missing last week, Goedert is the team's third-leading receiver with 81 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Hollywood Brown is also questionable this week because of an ankle injury.

With multiple receivers seemingly set to miss the game against the Rams, Philadelphia will need Dontayvion Wicks to take on even more of the workload. The first-year Eagle has nine receptions for 179 yards and a touchdown so far.

Additionally, Philadelphia will need to look to rookie receiver Makai Lemon more often after his slow start to the season, as well as Zach Ertz in the backup tight end role.

The Eagles came into the season hoping to make a case as Super Bowl contenders, but they haven't looked the part so far. Philadelphia had shaky performances against the Commanders and Titans before being blown out by the Bears, who were without starting quarterback Caleb Williams.

The Eagles will face one of the NFL's top teams this week, and potentially being without Smith will make things even more difficult.
