Travis Etienne Jr. Injured, Latest News on Saints RB's Status, Timeline and Fantasy Implications

The New Orleans Saints will be without their starting running back for several weeks.

Per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Travis Etienne Jr. will be placed on the injured reserve after suffering a hamstring injury, meaning he'll have to miss at least four games.

Etienne, who is in his first season with New Orleans, went to the locker room halfway through the third quarter of Sunday's loss to the Las Vegas Raiders and did not return.

After a career season with the Jacksonville Jaguars a year ago, Etienne has gotten off to a bit of a slow start, recording 128 rushing yards on 30 carries through the first three games.

Etienne's absence over the next few weeks means Alvin Kamara and Kendre Miller should see an increase in touches for the time being. Kamara has rushed for 51 yards on 18 carries this year, while Miller has 44 yards on 13 carries. Neither running back has found the end zone yet.

For fantasy managers looking for a replacement for Etienne, Miami Dolphins running back Ollie Gordon and New York Jets running back Braelon Allen jump out as possible candidates.

Dolphins' starting running back De'Von Achane landed on the injured reserve this week and Jaylen Wright is questionable heading into Week 4, so Gordon should get the bulk of the carries.

The Jets are likely to be without Breece Hall this week, and Allen is the first up behind him.

All things considered, the Saints have had a decent start to the year. After taking the Detroit Lions to overtime in Week 1, they upset the Baltimore Ravens in Week 2. They're coming off a one-score loss to the Raiders and have a manageable game against the Atlanta Falcons on deck.

Still, losing Etienne will make things a bit more difficult.
