Commanders' Jayden Daniels Explains Why He's Not Concerned About Reinjuring Dislocated Elbow

It remains to be seen whether Jayden Daniels will play in Sunday's game against the Indianapolis Colts just two weeks after he suffered a dislocated left elbow, but the Washington Commanders quarterback isn't worried about reinjuring it.

"That's what the brace for," he said Thursday, per ESPN's John Keim. "If I had that concern, I would have gotten surgery."

It would be a quick turnaround for what appeared to be a significant injury, especially since Daniels also suffered a dislocation in his left arm last season and then reaggravated it five weeks later before he was shut down for the rest of the campaign.

"I'm not surprised," he said when discussing the quick return to the practice field. "Everything I went through, everybody said I would be good to go if I'm able to be out there Sunday. But I'm taking it day by day."

Keim noted the quarterback could still undergo surgery after the season but will be wearing a different brace this time around that keeps his elbow slightly bent in an effort to prevent another dislocation.

"Obviously you have those conversations with people I need to have those conversations with," he said of evaluating his options. "If the surgery was needed to be ASAP, then I've got to do what's best for me. We had those conversations. I was blessed enough to go back out there on the practice field. ... I'm not really concerned at this moment."

Fortunately for the Commanders, they have a solid backup option in place if Daniels cannot play against the Colts.

Marcus Mariota led them to a 33-31 victory over the reigning-champion Seattle Seahawks in Week 3. He threw three touchdowns and zero interceptions while also adding 11 yards on the ground as a runner.

Daniels gives the team the best chance to win over the long-term course of the season, but many teams would love to have an experienced backup like Mariota to operate the offense in the case of injury.
