New Jayden Daniels Injury Update as Commanders QB Resumes Throwing at Practice

Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels has taken a "good step" in recovery from his elbow injury ahead of a Week 4 matchup in London, head coach Dan Quinn told reporters Wednesday.

Quinn said the Commanders had not yet ruled out Daniels for Sunday's game ahead of his limited participation in Wednesday's "jog-through" practice.

"As we're working through the week, he'll get more reps... As we get into Thursday and Friday, we'll see what that load looks like," Quinn said. "And then by Friday we'll have a definite determination of where we're at."

Quinn continued, "We're not going to put him out there before he's ready, so that's why it's important for us to trust the process as we're going. But him being back on the field is like, man, that's a good step for us."

The Commanders are preparing for a 9:30 a.m. ET kickoff this Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts in London.

Daniels suffered a dislocated left elbow on an awkward fall during the Commanders' Week 2 loss at the Dallas Cowboys.

The Commanders said shortly afterward Daniels was not considering surgery on the elbow, which also sidelined him for stretches last season.

The team decided not to place him on IR, indicating a possible return within four weeks, and kept the possibility of a start against the Colts open by bringing Daniels with the team to the United Kingdom.

After suffering a left elbow dislocation in Week 9 of the 2025 season, Daniels briefly returned in Week 14 wearing a brace before re-injuring the elbow and leaving the game early.

Multiple reporters noted Daniels is expected to once more wear a left arm brace upon his return from his latest elbow dislocation.

The Athletic's Jonathan Jones reported Daniels' brace will be "bulkier" than the one he briefly wore last season but "should not limit what he has to do on the field."

The Commanders (1-2) are looking to get back to .500 with a win over the Colts (1-2), which have ranked 30th in passing yards allowed through three games.

Should Daniels remain sidelined Sunday, Marcus Mariota would be tabbed to make a second straight start for the Commanders.

Mariota started last Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks, where he went 10-for-31 with 183 passing yards and three touchdowns in a win over the defending Super Bowl champions.
