Jalen Hurts Wanted 'Expedited' Concussion Check After Viral Video During Eagles vs. Chiefs

Jalen Hurts explained that he wanted to return to to the field earlier after getting evaluated for a concussion during the Philadelphia Eagles' 27-7 loss to the Chicago Bears on Monday.

"I was still waiting," Hurts said after the game, via Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk. "Just waiting for the thumbs up. I felt fine, we already checked it. I don't know the extent of the process. Obviously wish they could have expedited things. I felt fine."

Hurts exited the contest in the second quarter to be evaluated after getting hit out of bounds while scrambling. He then appeared to be asking to come back in the game.

He eventually returned under center, but it came after backup quarterback Andy Dalton threw an interception that ended Philadelphia's drive.

The Eagles trailed 7-0 and had the ball at Chicago's two-yard line before the turnover occurred.

Hurts returned for Philadelphia's next possession and helped lead a 67-yard touchdown drive to end the first half. The Eagles were ultimately held scoreless throughout the final two quarters of the game, though.

Hurts finished 16-of-25 for 153 yards and one interception. He also rushed for 25 yards and one touchdown.

Under the NFL's concussion and return-to-play protocol, players that are removed from a game to undergo evaluation must complete a concussion assessment before they can return. It includes steps such as a focused neurological exam and a video review.

If any symptoms of a concussion are observed, the player will be escorted to the locker room. Hurts didn't need to enter Philadelphia's locker room on Monday, but still had to wait to clear concussion protocol.

The Eagles fell to 2-1 with the loss as they attempt to advance to the playoffs for the sixth consecutive year.
