Jerry Jones Hints at Ongoing Cowboys Trade Talks amid Joey Porter Jr., Steelers Rumors

After falling to 1-2 following Sunday's 34-31 loss to the Baltimore Ravens in the NFL Rio Game, the Dallas Cowboys could see some changes soon.

During his weekly radio appearance on 105.3 The Fan, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said there are active "conversations going on" about potentially upgrading the team's roster through the trade market. While Jones chose not to comment on Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Joey Porter Jr. to avoid tampering, it's safe to say the 26-year-old is near the top of Dallas' target list.

ESPN's Adam Schefter recently reported that the Cowboys are among "a handful of teams" that have "begun making inquiries about the availability" of Porter, who has missed the first three games of the 2026 season while recovering from a back injury. Sources told Schefter that the Steelers "would be willing to listen to trade offers for Porter," but they "would want a strong compensation package if they were to deal the fourth-year star."

Dallas has focused on improving its defense over the last year, acquiring defensive linemen Quinnen Williams, Rashan Gary and Kenny Clark in trades and using its two 2026 first-round draft picks to select safety Caleb Downs and linebacker Malachi Lawrence.

Despite the defensive overhaul, the Cowboys are still searching for answers. Through the first three weeks of the 2026 campaign, the team ranks 30th in the NFL with 387.0 yards allowed per game.

It sounds like Jones is willing to continue being aggressive in finding trades to help the Cowboys improve. Dallas will try to get back on track when it faces the Houston Texans (0-3) in Week 4.
