Lions' Amon-Ra St. Brown Hit with Steep Fine by NFL for 4 Unsportsmanlike Conduct Infractions

Amon-Ra St. Brown will have to fork over almost $60,000 to the NFL for his celebrations during the Lions' loss last Thursday to the Buffalo Bills.

The NFL announced Saturday St. Brown was fined $59,704 after being assessed four unsportsmanlike conduct violations for "illegal celebrations and vulgar acts" at the cost of $14,926 each.

St. Brown told reporters Thursday he intended to appeal the NFL's decision.

"It's not good, man. 14 something times four, you do the math," St. Brown said Thursday (h/t Nolan Dianchi of the Detroit News. "But I'm gonna appeal it."

St. Brown wasn't the only Lions player left with a bill after the loss to the Bills. Jameson Williams, Penei Sewell and Jahmyr Gibbs were each hit with $14,926 fines for an illegal celebration.

Williams also picked up a $11,941 fine for taunting, while Tyler Lacy and Devin White were charged more than $7,000 each for facemask violations.

One of the celebrations for which St. Brown was penalized took place after he caught a touchdown pass from Jared Goff to start out last Thursday's second half by cutting the Bills' lead to 10 points.

The Lions were unable to close the deficit further before conceding the 41-31 loss, during which St. Brown recorded nine catches on 13 targets for 142 yards and two touchdowns.

St. Brown isn't the only player who has pushed back against the NFL's decision to fine players for imitating smoking or drinking in on-field celebrations.

San Francisco 49ers fullback Kyle Juszczyk argued against a Week 2 fines for a celebration in which he mimicked chugging a drink he said represented juice.

Bud Light, an NFL sponsor, has leaned into the discussion by keeping track of how many fines players have racked up for drinking-related celebrations so far this season.
