Sophie Cunningham Reveals What Fever Need to Fix Ahead of 2026 WNBA Playoffs in New Video

Sophie Cunningham says the Indiana Fever are ready to learn from what she described as "one of our worst games of the whole season" in Sunday's 93-77 loss to the Washington Mystics.

The Fever conceded 34 first-quarter points and never led in a loss that put Indiana on track for a lower seed in the 2026 WNBA playoffs.

"It sucks that it happened right now, but at least it happened now and not during playoffs," Cunningham said around the 3:45 mark of Thursday's episode of No Hesitation with Sophie Cunningham & Drew Hanlen. "I think you can still learn from it a little bit."

Cunningham continued around the 8:40 mark, "As a team, in that first quarter— that's something that we've got to get better at. We talk about this all the time. We've got to punch first. We've got to set the tone early."

The Fever shot just 21 percent from behind the arc in Sunday's loss, marking an off night for a team averaging a WNBA-high 39.3 percent shooting rate from deep.

On Thursday's podcast, however, Cunningham said doesn't feel Fever players "live and die by threes."

Cunningham, who podcast co-host Hanlen pointed out is a significantly more efficient shooter when she sees more minutes on the court, said she feels her team's success hinges more on getting depth players involved on offense.

"We had one of the best offenses in WNBA history with the amount of points that we scored this season in a stretch... I think my biggest thing is our ball movement," Cunningham said. "I think it's our assists. I think it's getting involved. I think when we have anywhere from five, to six, to seven people into double figures, and everyone's getting involved... we're phenomenal."

"Do we have a lot of great three-point shooters? Absolutely. But I think it's getting other people involved... that's when we're at our best."

The Fever bounced back from Sunday's loss with a Tuesday blowout against a Minnesota Lynx team that sat starters for the second half.

Indiana is now preparing to close out the regular season Thursday night with a road game at the Lynx. A win would lock the Fever in to the No. 5 seed, per ESPN's Michael Voepel.

A loss combined with a Washington Mystics win over the Chicago Sky would drop the Fever to the No. 6 seed, per Voepel.

Cunningham will hope to see the Fever come out with a stronger start when the regular season finale tips off at 8 p.m. ET in Minneapolis.
