Cubs vs. Red Sox Relocation Plans Reportedly Being Explored Due to Latest Weather Forecast

Before the Chicago Cubs visit the Boston Red Sox for this weekend's regular-season finale series, they may have to book travel plans elsewhere.

Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reported that MLB has discussed the possibility of moving at least part of the three-game series between the Cubs and Red Sox to Tropicana Field in Tampa Bay due to a multi-day nor'easter storm expected in the area.

According to the Weather Channel, rain and wind are expected all weekend in Boston:

• Friday: High of 64 degrees, Low of 57 degrees, 60% chance of rain in the evening
• Saturday: High of 61 degrees, Low of 57 degrees, 90% chance of rain
• Sunday: High of 62 degrees, Low of 56 degrees, 95% chance of rain
• Monday: High of 60 degrees, Low of 56 degrees, 75% chance of rain

The Red Sox previously announced that they will play a split doubleheader against the Cubs on Friday, with the game initially scheduled for Sunday being moved to 1:05 p.m. ET before Game 2 at 6:05 p.m. ET.

While the Red Sox have already clinched a wild-card spot in the American League, the Cubs are still fighting for position in the National League. At 87-71, Chicago is in a four-way race for the playoffs with the San Diego Padres (88-70), Philadelphia Phillies (87-71) and Arizona Diamondbacks (84-74).

The Cubs will surely be hoping to bring their best against the Red Sox, but the teams will need to sort out their contingency plans amid the impending storm.
