Latest MLB Playoff Picture 2026, World Series Bracket and Wild Card Race

The undecideds in the MLB playoff race remained undecided on Wednesday night.

Five teams had a shot at securing their postseason tickets, but all of them came up short. So, they'll be left waiting at least one more day to snag a seat at the table.

Some feel inevitable, but others are way too close to call. The AL West, for instance, has a tie between the Texas Rangers and Houston Astros for now, but the latter holds the spot by way of a tiebreaker. In the AL Central, the Cleveland Guardians have just a one-game cushion on the resurgent Chicago White Sox.

All of this will get settled over the next few days, but let's look at all of the pertinent races snapshot-style before examining Thursday's clinching scenarios.

What To Watch on Thursday

It'll be an especially busy Thursday night in the MLB world, and the many clinching scenarios at play can attest to that.

Over in the AL, the Guardians and White Sox both have chances to clinch playoff berths. For Cleveland, it can happen by way of a win over Boston, a Texas loss to the Mets or a Houston loss to the A's. For Chicago, a win over Kansas City or a Texas loss to the Mets would get it done.

The Red Sox have their own stakes at play, since they'd lock in the second wild card spot with a win over the Guardians or a White Sox loss to the Royals. Boston will have All-Star Ranger Suárez on the bump, while Cleveland has rookie Daniel Espino as an opener and southpaw Joey Cantillo working in bulk behind him.

Over in the NL, the top two playoff seeds and three different playoff berths could be claimed before the night is finished.

The Brewers can lock up the No. 1 seed with a win over the Phillies and a Dodgers' loss to the Padres. The Dodgers, meanwhile, could ensure they'll finish no worse than No. 2 with either a win over the Padres or a Braves loss to the Reds.

The Cubs, Padres and Phillies could all clinch playoff berths if the Diamondbacks lose to the Rockies. Should Arizona take care of business, then Chicago would get in with a win over Miami, San Diego would clinch with a win over L.A. and Philadelphia would secure a berth with a win over Milwaukee.
