New York Giants star pass-rusher Brian Burns is "likely to miss some time" despite not requiring surgery for an ankle injury, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Burns suffered the injury during New York's 28-6 defeat at the hands of the Los Angeles Rams in Week 2.

Giants head coach John Harbaugh revealed that the 28-year-old was diagnosed with a low ankle sprain after the game, per SNY's Connor Hughes.

ESPN's Jordan Raanan also reported that Burns has been wearing a boot on his foot since the loss.

The Giants were hit hard by injuries against Los Angeles, as quarterback Jaxson Dart suffered damage to his MCL, PCL and meniscus that will require season-ending surgery.

Wide receiver Malik Nabers and left tackle Andrew Thomas also suffered shoulder and groin injuries, respectively. Both players participated in Wednesday's practice, per Dan Duggan of The Athletic.

Burns' upcoming absence is a tough blow to New York's front seven, as he wrapped up a 2025 campaign in which he ranked No. 2 in the NFL with 16.5 sacks.

While he hasn't been able to take down a quarterback through two games this year, he's still made his presence felt in opposing backfields.

Burns is one of just three edge-rushers to rank within the top 10 in both pass-rush win rate and run-stop win rate, via ESPN. He's also recorded four tackles and one quarterback hit to open the 2026 season.

The Giants will rely on several players to help make up for Burns' impact moving forward including Abdul Carter and Kayvon Thibodeaux.

New York is set to face the Tennessee Titans in Week 3. The Titans have allowed five sacks through two weeks this season.
