Roman Reigns Talks WWE Future, The Rock, Cody Rhodes, 'Street Fighter' Role, More

WWE World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns has not been shy about admitting he's at the back end of his career.

However, while speaking to Mark Elibert of Complex, Reigns left the door open for another stretch as the face of the company.

"If I stay in shape and I do my end of the job," he said, "I could possibly still have a whole 'nother run that we didn't even think about."

Reigns has done it all in WWE, but he still feels he has unfinished business. The 41-year-old said he feels there are still storylines with "a couple to a few years" of loose ends and "logic gaps" worth revisiting.

"I got like a little bit of OCD when it comes to storytelling and stuff," Reigns said. "I like symmetrical situations, continuity and stuff. ... It's all about the nuances."

Still, Reigns admitted that the next generation is on its way and will take his place at the top when it's time.

"As these young guys continue to grow, they're gonna create matchups and situations for me," Reigns says. "As I'm phasing out and as they're really taking the helm, their superstardom, I think, will create those type of fantasy warfares."

However, Reigns pointed out that there's a lot that goes into being the face of WWE, and only a few Superstars have been able to carry the mantle, namely Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and John Cena.

"Dwayne is the anomaly. He is the outlier," Reigns said. "Nobody's ever gonna do it like The Rock."

While Reigns and Cena didn't ascend as quickly as Johnson did during the Attitude Era, the OTC now knows what he's looking for in younger Superstars that will determine whether they're worthy of his spot.

"As it's been shown with John and then also with me, it takes a decade or so," he said. "Can you perform every single time and then deliver when you're asked? Can you do it when you're tired? Can you do it when you're sick? Can you do it when you're hungover after WrestleMania? Can you carry the banner for this company? This is a billion-dollar machine. It's not easy."

Reigns named longtime rival Cody Rhodes as the one Superstar who has answered all of those questions.

"There's only been one who's been able to carry that banner," he said. "And that's been Cody."

Reigns has already begun preparing for life beyond pro wrestling, as he's set to star as Akuma in next month's highly anticipated Street Fighter film, which also stars Rhodes as Guile. Reigns said he used elements of his WWE persona to tap into the mind of the popular antihero.

"I think that's why I was considered for the part and got it because there were so many parallels between the Tribal Chief and Akuma," Reigns said. "I said it from the beginning. I'm not a good guy. I'm not a bad guy. I'm the guy, and that's how I've always felt in WWE."

He added about Akuma: "He's not a villain. He just is only looking for the most honorable fight, the greatest competition. That's all he cares about. He's not evil. He just is what he is, and that's what I love about him."

For now, Reigns made it clear that his legacy in WWE is far from over, and he's looking forward to helping to find the next Superstar who can carry the banner for the company.

"It's one thing to have a match with me," Reigns said. "It's another to be the guy that we're working towards to transition from me, or to use my equity to then put a rocket on that guy's back."

He continued, "If you're in the ring with me, your value's going up. It sounds arrogant, but I don't mean it that way. I just mean that if you get in the ring with me, you're gonna get the very best Roman Reigns."
