Sam Darnold Injury Update, Latest Rumors on Seahawks QB's Return Timeline Amid Glute Issue

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold has "a chance" to return from his glute injury on Sunday against the Washington Commanders and will return to practice this week, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Rapoport added that the Seahawks are going to be "cautious" with Darnold's return and there could "maybe be another week of Drew Lock, but sooner rather than later for Darnold."

The plan has been to get Darnold back on the practice field Wednesday.

"Right now, the plan is for him to be out there in some capacity, and we'll go from there," head coach Mike Macdonald told reporters on Monday. "How much, we'll see from here to Wednesday on what that number is. But right now, that's the goal."

Darnold suffered the injury just five plays into the season-opening win over the New England Patriots. He was replaced by Lock, who has been fantastic in relief duty, throwing for 422 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions while completing 72.9 percent of his passes in parts of two games.

The 29-year-old Darnold led Seattle to a Super Bowl title last season, throwing for 4,048 yards, 25 touchdowns and 14 interceptions during the regular season and 672 yards, five scores and zero interceptions in the playoffs. It was quite the debut season in Seattle.

And the Seahawks have little reason to rush him back given Lock's strong play and the 2-0 start. Nonetheless, it sounds like Darnold will return to action in the next week or two.
