Giants' Odell Beckham Jr. Shows Support for Jaxson Dart Amid Rumors on QB's Knee Injury

New York Giants veteran wideout Odell Beckham Jr. offered his support to quarterback Jaxson Dart on Tuesday, with reports that the young star suffered a more serious knee injury than initially believed during Monday's 28-6 loss against the Los Angeles Rams.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo reported Tuesday that Dart "will miss an extended period of time and is facing the possibility of season-ending surgery."

The Giants struck a more optimistic tone on Tuesday night, with the belief that Dart was only dealing with a sprained MCL.

Tuesday's MRI changed the calculus, however.

"We've learned a lot more [about Dart's knee]," Harbaugh said. "When we know what direction we're going to have to go or whatever it might be, we'll announce that. But we don't have that yet, so I don't want to get out over our skis on that."

Any hope of the Giants ending a recent run of futility that has included just one playoff berth in the past nine seasons would almost assuredly be extinguished if Dart was lost for the year. While backup Jameis Winston has plenty of experience as the starter, he's a major step down from Dart.

The 32-year-old was dreadful in relief duty on Monday night, finishing 11-of-27 for 111 yards, no touchdowns, an interception and two sacks taken. The Rams are a tough defense to face, even without Myles Garrett, but Winston didn't inspire much confidence with his performance. Neither do his 114 interceptions in 109 career games.

Teams have rallied behind backup quarterbacks and made playoff runs before, but much of New York's offensive upside seemed predicated on Dart's playmaking ability. That unit now faces a tall task with the possibility of his season being over.
