Will Levis, Jets Reportedly Agree to Contract, Will Be QB3 Behind Geno Smith, Cade Klubnik

The New York Jets are signing quarterback Will Levis to their practice squad, according to The Ringer's Tom Pelissero.

The team is releasing Bailey Zappe to open a spot for the 2023 second-round pick. The Jets have two QBs, Geno Smith and Cade Klubnik, on their active roster.

Levis made 21 starts across his first two seasons with the Tennessee Titans. He threw for 3,899 yards, 21 touchdowns and 16 interceptions. His tenure in Music City was marked by some inexplicable decision-making.

The 27-year-old missed all of 2025 due to shoulder surgery, and the Titans waived him in August.

Levis' fall out of the first round was one of the biggest storylines from the 2023 draft. He wound up justifying all of the concerns people had about his game coming out of college.

Sam Darnold and Daniel Jones are two quarterbacks who shed their label of being a draft bust and found success with a change of scenery. In the case of Levis, though, it's difficult to find any hidden upside. His 25.2 QBR was last among qualified passers in 2024, per ESPN.com.

Since then, Levis has missed an entire year of development time.

From New York's perspective, there isn't much risk in bringing him onto the practice squad. Maybe Levis has something in his arsenal he didn't show with the Titans.

And if push comes to shove and the Jets have to elevate their third-stringer to the starting job, he at least has some experience in the role.
