Saints' Tyler Shough Compared to 'Poor Man's Josh Allen' by Ravens DC Anthony Weaver

Heading into their matchup on Sunday with the New Orleans Saints, Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver had high praise for Tyler Shough.

Weaver told reporters on Thursday that Shough reminds him of a "poor man's Josh Allen" and the "sky's the limit" for the Saints quarterback.

Shough was one of the most interesting prospects in recent memory leading up to the 2025 draft. He was well regarded by many analysts, but no one seemed to know how to properly rank him since he turned 26 early in his rookie season.

Allen, who turned 22 one month after he was selected No. 7 overall by the Buffalo Bills in the 2018 draft, was regarded as a developmental prospect coming out of Wyoming.

There are some physical comparisons between Shough and Allen. Shough measured in at 6'5" and 219 pounds with a 32-inch vertical jump and a 9'9" broad jump.

Allen was listed just under 6'5" and 237 pounds with a 33.5-inch vertical jump and a 9'11" broad jump.

Even though Shough's age was held against him, he has looked pretty good since taking over as New Orleans' starting quarterback. He threw for 2,384 yards, 10 touchdowns, six interceptions and ran for 186 yards with three scores on 45 carries in 11 appearances (nine starts) as a rookie.

From a pure statistical standpoint, Shough was a better passer than Allen as a rookie. Allen threw for 2,074 yards, 10 touchdowns, 12 interceptions in 12 games during the 2018 season. He did have a huge edge on the ground with 631 yards and eight touchdowns on 89 rushing attempts.

It took Allen until his third season before he married the elite-level passing with his ability to run the football.

Shough threw for 410 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions in Week 1 against the Detroit Lions.

The Saints scored all 30 points in that game after halftime. They had a chance to win in overtime, but Shough's two-point conversion pass to Bryce Lance was incomplete.

No one will argue Shough is close to Allen right now, but their physical profiles do suggest the Saints quarterback could become a better NFL player than anyone thought when most of the focus was on his draft age.
