Randy Orton vs. Sheamus Announced for WWE SummerSlam 2015 PPV
WWE has telegraphed a SummerSlam match between Sheamus and Randy Orton for a while now and finally eliminated any doubt about its plans for this Sunday's pay-per-view, officially announcing a bout between the two.
The bad blood between Orton and Sheamus began at Money in the Bank, where Sheamus won the MITB briefcase. The former WWE champions then engaged in a back-and-forth series of attack, leading to a match at Battleground.
Although Orton won that match, the rivalry was far from over.
On last week's episode of Raw, Sheamus interfered in Orton's WWE World Heavyweight Championship match with Seth Rollins, forcing a disqualification. Orton returned the favor by denying Sheamus a chance to cash in the MITB briefcase:
Still, WWE Creative Humor is having trouble finding a way this all makes sense from a story perspective:
The prospect of another Orton and Sheamus match isn't exactly exciting. You can watch some guys wrestle a thousand times, and it's still captivating—Sting and Ric Flair come to mind in that regard.
That's not the case with The Viper and Mr. Money in the Bank. It doesn't help that you feel like both wrestlers have been coasting for the last few months through no real fault of their own.
The only interesting aspect of this match is whether Sheamus follows in the footsteps of Rollins, who lost to Orton at WrestleMania 31 but ended the night with the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
