Kyler Murray Injured, Latest Updates on Vikings QB's Hamstring, Status vs. Bills in NFL Week 9
The Minnesota Vikings got some bad news about their starting quarterback on Monday.
Coach Kevin O'Connell told reporters Kyler Murray came away from the 19-15 defeat to the Detroit Lions with a hamstring issue. The full extent of his injury isn't yet known.
Murray's tenure with the Vikings got off to a rough start in Week 1, as he was forced to exit against the Green Bay Packers in Minnesota's third offensive drive. He attempted to slide while scrambling and took a hard hit from Javon Bullard.
He was unable to return to the game and finished his first game as a Viking with just 18 passing yards, nine rushing yards and an interception.
Luckily for the Vikings, veteran quarterback Carson Wentz came in and threw for 133 yards and three touchdowns, helping Minnesota come back from a 12-point deficit to win 37-22 and start the season on the right note.
Murray is coming off an injury-filled 2025 campaign that saw him play just five games for the Arizona Cardinals as he finished the season with 962 yards, six touchdowns and three interceptions.
He signed with the Vikings in March and later won the starting quarterback job, hoping to get a fresh start. Unfortunately for him, his season started with an injury, and his performance since returning has been inconsistent.
If Murray has to miss time, Wentz will presumably elevate into the starting role for Week 9 matchup with the Buffalo Bills.
