Travis Hunter 'Definitely Will' Play WR, CB in Return from Injury, Jaguars HC Outlines 2-Way Plan

Heading into his second NFL season, Travis Hunter is expected to get reps on both sides of the ball for the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Speaking to reporters after Friday's practice, Jaguars head coach Liam Coen explained Hunter "definitely will" play both wide receiver and cornerback even if it doesn't happen in every game:

"You're going to continue to try to get him in positions that he can do things that he's good at. That's what we're trying to do. It doesn't always [mean Hunter is going to get the ball when he's in the game]. He's a damn good blocker. He can run routes in terms of maybe the ball's not schemed up to go to him. I'm not obviously having a count in my head with how many plays and what we're exactly going to do with him, but he definitely will play both."

Hunter only played seven games as a rookie due to injuries, including a torn LCL that ended his season. He played more than 50 percent of the offensive and defensive snaps in Weeks 2 and 3.

The Jags' official Week 1 depth chart lists Hunter as a starting cornerback and second-string wide receiver.

It was flipped at the start of last season when Hunter was listed as a starting receiver and backup cornerback.

One reason for the change is the Jaguars are better situated at receiver now than they were at this point last year. Parker Washington, Jakobi Meyers and Brian Thomas Jr. is a strong starting trio.

The expectation for Hunter throughout the offseason was that he would see more time on defense in 2026. General manager James Gladstone said in May they planned to give Hunter an "uptick" in cornerback reps.

Hunter and the Jaguars will open the regular season on Sunday against the Cleveland Browns at EverBank Stadium.
