The first week of the 2026 NFL season is finally here, and fans will be treated to a number of exciting matchups during the inaugural slate. Almost every single matchup on the schedule will carry at least some level of intrigue.

Of course, those looking to add a little extra juice to the proceedings will look to make a wager or two. Those who do will look to consider every possible angle before making their picks.

That includes weather projections. While cold temperatures and snowfall aren't an issue this time of year, heat, wind, and rainfall can impact certain outcomes.

Weather shouldn't be a widespread factor in Week 1, but rain could impact a couple of games. Wet weather is in the forecast for Charlotte, Jacksonville, Houston, and Philadelphia on Sunday, and it could lead to lower scores and defensively-driven games.

The Houston Texans, though, may opt to close the retractable roof on NRG Stadium if conditions are severe.

Wednesday's opener between the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots looks to have fair weather, as does Thursday's game between the Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers in Australia.

Monday night's game between the Denver Broncos and Kansas City Chiefs may involve rain. However, weather probably won't be the biggest X-factor. Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes will be the biggest variable, provided he starts as expected.

"Pretty good chance Patrick will go ahead and start, unless something were to come up here in the next couple days," Chiefs coach Andy Reid said in his Tuesday video conference (ProFootballTalk's Myles Simmons). "But, most likely, he'll be the guy that's out there."

Coming off a torn ACL, Mahomes may not be as quick to rely on his mobility in Week 1, which could be a major problem against a ferocious Denver defense.

Another non-weather-related factor that could impact Week 1 is the status of Patriots running back TreVeyon Henderson. He's been out of practice since late August with an ankle injury and has been ruled out of Week 1.

The statuses of Las Vegas Raiders running back Ashton Jeanty (ankle) and Arizona Cardinals running back Jeremiyah Love (ankle) will bear watching in the coming days.

While fans may get to see both Jeanty and Love in their respective lineups on Sunday, they won't see Aaron Donald with the Rams on Thursday. He didn't travel with the team to Australia and will be inactive, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
