DK Metcalf Says He Wasn't 'Sour' Over Seahawks' Super Bowl Win After Trade to Steelers

Pittsburgh Steelers star receiver DK Metcalf had to watch as his old Seattle Seahawks won the Super Bowl less than a year after trading him, but he has no regrets.

While speaking to Jonathan Jones of The Athletic, Metcalf made it clear that he has no ill feelings toward the Seahawks after they granted his request to be traded before the 2025 season.

"I live with my decisions every day… they're very well thought-out decisions to where I know the consequences, know my benefits from every decision that I make," Metcalf said. "I got brothers on (the Seahawks), still friends on the team. So I congratulated them, but nobody's sour over an ex unless you really miss them. So no, I wasn't sour."

The Steelers sent a 2025 second-round draft pick to the Seahawks to acquire Metcalf, who was then signed to a four-year contract extension that made him one of the highest-paid receivers in the league at $33 million per year.

The 28-year-old reportedly pushed to be shipped out of the Pacific Northwest because he "grew frustrated with his role under one-and-done offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb" in 2024. Jones noted that Seattle was open to fulfilling Metcalf's trade request "in part because the Seahawks suspected they would have to pay Jaxon Smith-Njigba sooner rather than later."

Metcalf had a solid year in his first season in Pittsburgh, finishing with 99 catches for 850 yards and six touchdowns in 15 games. However, that paled in comparison to the success Seattle achieved, as Smith-Njigba was named NFL Offensive Player of the Year as the team went on to hoist the Lombardi Trophy for the second time in franchise history.

It can be expected that Metcalf will be extra motivated to help lead the Steelers to title contention this year. Pittsburgh will open the 2026 season on Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons.
