Titans LB Cedric Gray Placed in Concussion Protocol After UTV Accident Ahead of Week 1 vs. Jets

The Tennessee Titans announced that linebacker Cedric Gray is in the concussion protocol ahead of a Week 1 matchup with the New York Jets after he "sustained a concussion and minor injuries" in a UTV accident, per ESPN's Turron Davenport.

The team said Gray, who was driving, wasn't doing so recklessly and alcohol was not involved.

"We look forward to Cedric returning to the field soon and in full health when he clears the NFL's concussion protocol," the Titans noted in the statement.

Gray, a 2024 fourth-round pick, had a fantastic sophomore season for the Titans in 2025, recording 164 tackles (seven for loss), one sack, three quarterback hits, two fumble recoveries and four passes defensed while cementing himself as a key member of Tennessee's defensive core.

Pro Football Focus graded him as the No. 8 linebacker in the NFL last season, noting that he "took a monumental leap. The 23-year-old linebacker was a force in the run game, earning the second-highest PFF run-defense grade (92.7) at the position this past season—a mark that stands in the top five in the PFF era. He also recorded the second-most defensive stops (64) in the NFL."

With Gray likely out for Sunday's showdown against the Jets, James Williams Sr. would be in line to start in his place. In two seasons he's recorded 52 tackles and a sack.

Without Gray manning the middle, expect a heavy dosage of running back Breece Hall from the Jets, both between the tackles as a runner and in the passing game as a safety valve for quarterback Geno Smith.
