Mike Trout, Angels Miss MLB Playoffs for 12th Straight Year, Updated Bracket Picture and Standings

It is Sept. 7. The Los Angeles Angels have been eliminated from playoff contention.

The Halos became the third team officially eliminated from the postseason on Monday following a 5-2 loss against the Boston Red Sox, a drought that is now well over a decade long:

What's so stunning about the Angels being so poor yet again is that the AL West is wide open this season, with just one team above .500 (the Astros), and only by two games. And the Angels have at least been respectable in divisional matchups, going 21-22.

Against the AL East, however, they've gone just 11-18, while against the AL Central—the second-worst division in baseball—they are a woeful 7-20, and in inter-league play they've only managed a 15-30 mark.

Change is coming to Anaheim, as the team is being sold to Stan Kroenke, who also owns Premier League champions Arsenal alongside the NFL's Los Angeles Rams, NBA's Denver Nuggets, NHL's Colorado Avalanche and MLS' Colorado Rapids. Perhaps new ownership will help the team end a playoff drought dating back to 2015.
