Aaron Judge, Trent Grisham Injury Updates Discussed by Yankees' Aaron Boone

New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone still isn't committing to naming a return date for star Aaron Judge.

When asked whether Judge could be back on the field on Tuesday, Boone was noncommittal.

"I don't know," he told reporters. "We'll see."

Judge was also vague, saying that he'll make his return "hopefully soon."

Boone did offer an update on Trent Grisham, saying that the center fielder has a Grade 2 right hamstring sprain and could miss the rest of the regular season.

Judge has been out since late May with a fractured rib but appears to be trending towards a return as the postseason nears.

Boone told reporters on Saturday that Judge would face live pitchers on Monday, his first time doing so since landing on the injured list. He previously took batting practice swings on Friday, another step in his rehab.

"I'm mad how long it has taken," Judge said on Friday. "It is what it is. I wish it was real two months ago, but we're at this point [now]. We're getting close. I can't wait to be back out there."

Judge, who also ran the bases and did fielding work on Friday, added that facing live pitchers might be the last step in getting back on the field.

"We're hitting all the baseball stuff," Judge said. "Throwing to bases, throwing, running the bases. Hitting, getting on the field, moving around. I think [we need to] face some live pitching and then I'll get back out there. ... We're trying to get the volume up so that we can be in a good spot. Because not doing nothing for three months, man, it feels like an offseason and you're kind of going back into Spring Training."

Before his injury, Judge was hitting .248 with 17 homers, 38 RBI, 43 runs and a .907 OPS across 59 games. While his numbers were slightly down by his standards, the Yankees' lineup has certainly taken a hit without him.

Still, New York has managed to stay afloat without Judge and is currently sitting in second place in the AL East at 81-61. The Yankees are also 9.5 games ahead in the wild-card race.

While Judge may be trending towards a return, losing Grisham for the remainder of the season would be another blow. He's hitting .211 this year with 18 home runs and 59 RBI, so the Yankees would lose a bit of pop at the plate.
