FIBA World Cup 2026 Results, Day 3 Group Box Scores, Highlights & Day 4 Schedule Before KO Bracket

Two of the top favorites were back in action Sunday in the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup.

Australia was matched up against Türkiye in the first of four games, with the United States and Italy bringing the day to a close.

Australia overwhelmed Türkiye en route to a comfortable 87-71 victory. The Opals nearly went wire to wire, trailing for a brief stretch in the first quarter before regaining the lead and never looking back.

Seattle Storm forward Ezi Magbegor was the game's standout performer. The Australian big had a team-high 21 points along with three rebounds and three assists.

Magbegor has missed the majority of the 2026 WNBA season through injury. Named the national team captain prior to the tournament, she's relishing her run in the World Cup.

Teammate Steph Talbot likewise looked like a different player from the one who has made 40 appearances for the Las Vegas Aces. She filled out the stat sheet with 17 points, five rebounds, five assists and one steal.

Storm guard Jade Melbourne ran the show from the point, chipping in eight points and three assists in 18 minutes of action.

Alanna Smith, the WNBA's reigning co-Defensive Player of the Year, was sidelined due to lower leg soreness. Australia hardly missed a beat without the Dallas Wings forward in the frontcourt.

China outlasted Czechia 74-70 in overtime to claim its first win of the World Cup.

Gong Luming's squad staged a dramatic comeback inside the final minute of regulation.

A three-pointer from Xinyu Luo trimmed the deficit to two, 64-62, with 21 seconds on the clock. Eliska Joklova could've effectively iced the game when she was fouled by Saiqi Jia. However, the Minnesota Lynx guard missed both of her free throws.

That left China with an opportunity to tie things up, and that's exactly what Shuyu Yang did when driving into the paint and finishing with a finger roll.

China led from start to finish in overtime to put a bow on Czechia's collapse.

New York Liberty center Han Xu had a monster game, putting up a double-double (22 points and 14 rebounds). While she did the bulk of her damage around the basket, she shot 3-of-6 from three-point range.

Beyond her fourth quarter heroics, Yang was solid as well while logging 40 minutes. She had 18 points, three rebounds and five assists.

The best efforts of former WNBA center Imani McGee-Stafford weren't enough to power Puerto Rico to a victory over Belgium, which walked away with a 76-64 win.

McGee-Stafford finished with 25 points and 13 rebounds, including seven on the offensive glass. Arella Guirantes did her best as well, pouring in 15 points.

Belgium's collective strength was too much for Puerto Rico to overcome.

Toronto Tempo guard Julie Allemand narrowly missed out on a triple-double by scoring 11 points, collecting 10 rebounds and dishing out eight assists. She was one of four Belgian players to hit double figures in scoring.

It's a testament to Belgium's depth that the team prevailed despite star Emma Meesseman being held in check.

Kyara Linskens and Maxuella Lisowa-Mbaka combined in the frontcourt for 28 points. Belgium was plus-18 in bench scoring as coach Mike Thibault got contributions across his entire squad.

Well that was surprisingly close.

Team USA overcame a stiff challenge from Italy on Sunday, winning 55-52 in a game they probably would prefer to forget.

The Americans shot just 29 percent from the field (16-of-56), were a shocking 1-of-12 from three, turned the ball over 14 times and managed just 11 assists.

Team USA's saving grace was a defense that held the Italians to just 31 percent shooting from the field (18-of-58). Italy was just 2-of-15 from three and turned the ball over 18 times, hurting their chances to pull off what would have been a monumental upset.

Italy had a chance to tied the game on the final possession but Cecilia Zandalasini couldn't sink the three and Breanna Stewart pulled down the rebound before dribbling out the clock.

The United States has now qualified directly to the quarterfinals, while Italy can finish no lower than third in Group D and will play in the knockout phase. Italy's matchup against China on Monday will determine which team finishes second and which one finishes third in Group D.
