After a pair of devastating crashes earlier this year that left her with a torn ACL and a severely broken leg, Lindsey Vonn is still facing a long road to being fully recovered.

"I feel good, I'm getting better. I still have another surgery, so I'm trying to get as strong as possible," Vonn told TNT Sports in an interview at the US Open on Sunday (h/t Zack Pierce of The Athletic). "And once I get my ACL, then I'll have another long road ahead of me. But for now, I feel great, and I'm very thankful for that."

After qualifying for her fifth Olympic appearance in December, Vonn tore her ACL in a crash in a World Cup race in Crans-Montana, Switzerland, on Jan. 30, the final downhill before the Olympics began a week later. The American Alpine skiing star still opted to compete through the injury at the Milan Cortina Games, but she suffered another violent crash just 13 seconds into her first run. She was airlifted off the course and underwent multiple surgeries to repair a "complex tibia fracture" and save her leg from amputation.

The 41-year-old said that her surgery later this year will address her ACL, which still hasn't been repaired.

"I'm hoping that I can have the next surgery in November, but it'll be in the winter sometime, and then it'll be another nine months until I'm fully recovered from that, so I can't really look beyond that," she said. "I don't really know what the future holds, but like I said, I'm just thankful for where I am right now."

A four-time World Cup champion and 2010 Olympic gold medalist, Vonn has already enjoyed a legendary career, so she will focus on her recovery before making a decision on her future in the sport.
