Steelers, Eagles, Vikings Among NFL Teams to Keep 4 QBs on 53-Man Roster After Cutdown Deadline

Four NFL teams made the decision to keep four quarterbacks on their 53-man rosters Sunday, a fairly rare occurrence in the modern NFL.

Those teams were as follows:

• Philadelphia Eagles: Jalen Hurts, Tanner McKee, Andy Dalton, Cole Payton
• Atlanta Falcons: Tua Tagovailoa, Michael Penix Jr., Cooper Rush, Jack Strand
• Pittsburgh Steelers: Aaron Rodgers, Mason Rudolph, Will Howard, Drew Allar
• Minnesota Vikings: Kyler Murray, J.J. McCarthy, Carson Wentz, Max Brosmer

The Eagles are perhaps the biggest surprise, given that Hurts is both a short- and long-term guarantee to remain the starter. The backup battle between Dalton and McKee will seemingly continue into the regular season, while Payton is perhaps an option to be used on special teams given his inclusion on the roster.

In Atlanta, short-term questions about the position perhaps led to keeping four quarterbacks, while both the Steelers and Vikings seemed to make decisions keeping in mind their longer-term prospects given uncertainty at the position beyond the 2026 season.
