Cowboys, 49ers Make OL Trades With Texans in New NFL Rumors Ahead of Roster Cut Deadline

A handful of teams are bolstering their offensive lines ahead of the roster cut deadline.

Per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and ESPN's Adam Schefter, the San Francisco 49ers traded for Houston Texans offensive lineman Jarrett Patterson. The Texans then traded for Dallas Cowboys offensive tackle Nathan Thomas.

Patterson was a sixth-round draft pick by the Texans in 2023 and has played in 39 games for Houston, including 21 starts, over the last three seasons. Heading into the 2026 campaign, he was listed as the third-string right guard on the Texans' depth chart, so the change of scenery should lead to a bit more playing time.

Patterson also started at center for Houston and could serve as Jake Brendel's backup this year in San Francisco.

Patterson recorded a 57.4 PFF grade last season, which ranked 50th among 81 qualified offensive guards. He is set to earn a $1.15 million base salary in 2026 after signing a restructured one-year deal with the Texans this offseason.

Thomas had been competing with Tyler Guyton for the Cowboys' starting left tackle position, but Guyton ultimately earned the job. Dallas also traded for Pittsburgh Steelers offensive tackle Broderick Jones on Saturday, which perhaps gave it enough depth to move on from Thomas.

Thomas was a seventh-round pick out of Louisiana in 2024 and appeared in 17 games last year, starting four of them. He finished the 2025 campaign with a 39.2 PFF grade, which ranked 88th among 89 offensive tackles.

While he struggled a bit during his time in Dallas, the Texans have been desperate to improve their offensive line, and Thomas could end up getting back on track in Houston.
