Cowboys Waive Jaydon Blue in New NFL Rumors, Updated RB Depth Chart and Fantasy Football Outlook

The Dallas Cowboys reportedly released running back Jaydon Blue on Sunday, per ESPN's Adam Schefter, leaving Javonte Williams, Malik Davis and Israel Abanikanda as the current options at the position after Phil Mafah was also cut.

It would not be a surprise if the team bolstered the position in free agency or via a trade, however:

Blue, 22, had just 38 carries for 129 yards and a touchdown in five games for the Cowboys last season, failing to live up to the some of the preseason hype he garnered ahead of the 2025 campaign.

He acknowledged in June that he needed to be better going forward.

"I didn't start off like I should have," he told The Athletic's Jon Machota. "Maybe if it was not practicing the right way or just on a maturity level, I think I wasn't really there. But just learning from all the vets, having the offseason that I've had, I think I'm ready to go. Just looking back on the things I didn't do too well and some of the reasons I wasn't on the field last year, taking the stuff my coaches were saying and making sure I apply them, whether that's this offseason or when I'm by myself."

Head coach Brian Schottenheimer cited Blue's "speed and his explosiveness" earlier in the offseason and said he expected the young running back to be a "huge part of what we want to do." The thinking on that clearly changed as the summer progressed, however.

As for the fantasy implications, Williams was already the clear bellcow in Dallas and Sunday's news only further cements that fact. With very few threats to limit his touches out of the backfield, he remains an extremely safe option in the RB2 range. Don't be surprised if Dallas adds another player at the position, however.
